Trends - “Color Service”

We exist in an ever evolving world that seems to be growing exponentially faster. There is so much great change happening and to come. Whether it’s new technology, new methods, or new styles, it is guaranteed to make its way, even if it is short lived.

In the Men’s Beauty industry we are recognizing new trends taking hold. From eccentric haircuts to “in your face” color changes. It is exciting to see the confidence of each individual grow as we become more accepting of each individual character.

If you’ve ever thought about coloring your hair, you may have had a few different thoughts come to mind. One of the most common fears of any color change is the potential of chemical damage, this is a potential truth when working with any chemicals for your hair. However, science has come a very long way in the hair industry and when you sit with a professional, you significantly decrease the possibility.

Let’s dive a bit deeper and breakdown what happens in a color service.

When you want to change your hair color, a chemical process has to take place. The process is based on what hair color you are desiring to be. If you are going darker, you would deposit pigment (color) into the hair. If you are going lighter, you would remove pigment (color) from the hair. If you want to change your hair to an “unnatural color” like pink or green, you would remove natural pigment to go blonde, and then deposit your desired color on top of that.

Pigment, or color, fills your hair strands and allows support for them to be strong and grow. When the pigment is altered, it is important to fill the hair strands with nutrients. If this is done consistently, you won’t recognize a change in the condition of your hair, even after the chemical service.

Hydration should initially take place during your service from the professional but it is just as important for the individual to continue care at home. The chemical service removes pigment while also diminishing protein and hydration from the hair. This can be replenished with treatments and leave-in conditioners. SELENE is a leave-in conditioner that all of our color clients use. The formulation has a perfect balance of the essential nutrients your hair needs, with or without a chemical service.

Your natural hair has what it needs in it to be healthy (unless you don’t take care of it) so when these factors are removed, we must replenish them to the core. While there are many treatments and services available, a consistent and maintainable use of a quality product will make all of the difference.

While change can be scary, it should be an exciting journey, not a timid walk! Break out your character today and be confident that you can endure and enjoy the change!
