Beards, like head hair, are meant to be styled.
Beards today make statements of character, redefine face shapes, and add depth to ones look. Some are blessed with natural growth and lines that make creating a bold look, easier. Others, like myself, have to be patient in the growing process and let the hair fill out on the face (and maybe cross our fingers extra hard in hopes it happens faster).
Regardless of where you are at on your beard journey, one thing is certain, daily maintenance and care are required. This routine not only improves the feeling of the growth process but also makes it clear that you take care of yourself.
Here are a few steps you can start today to improve the look and style of your beard.
Get your beard wet - Saturating your beard hair first is going to help relax your beard hair into its natural state, making it easier and more comfortable for you to detangle.
Apply Moisturizing Product - Beards get dry easily. This dryness can lead to itchy and irritable skin. A daily use of a moisturizer will help maintain the natural health and feel of your beard.
Do I use a Comb or Pick? - Deciding which tool to use on your beard is determined by the length of your beard hair. For shorter lengths a comb is best, the teeth on the comb are shorter and capable of laying the hair down smoothly. For longer beards that extend off the face, a pick is a better choice. The pick is able to reach to the back of the beard, and evenly detangle the beard underneath.
Direction of Combing or Picking - With your tool, first go against the grain of your hair growth. This ensures nothing is tucked or hidden away.
Then begin combing or picking your beard with the grain or hair flow. When you are doing this, you will notice the beard hair laying down effortlessly.
This simple process can make a huge difference in your presentation as you venture on the bearded path. Take the time to care for the statement your character is making.
